Sights now on Derby visit and runner-up spot

Newbold’s Easter weekend 140-mile round-trip to Matlock secured another bonus-point win. They beat the Midlands 1 East strugglers 48-20 to continue their quest for the league runners-up spot.

Head coach Phil Reed led the try-scoring with a tally of four in the comfortable victory.

Currently third, this Saturday’s game is likely to prove crucial in the final standings, with the visit of second placed Derby to Parkfield Road.

Both clubs are chasing the one play-off place behind leaders Bedford, who look likely to gain automatic promotion.

Whoever finishes second will have the chance to take on the runner-up in the West division for the other promotion spot.

After this weekend’s game, both clubs will have two further league fixtures to decide the outcome.
