Neutral fans spoilt for choice with top of the table clashes and a local derby

There’s a fantastic weekend of rugby in prospect across the town as league campaigns near their climax.

Newbold supporters will be out in force for their eagerly awaited contest towards the promotion play-off spot.

Currently third in Midlands 1 East, Newbold face second-placed Derby at Parkfield Road, in a crucial game that could ultimately decide who finishes runner-up.

Earlier this month Newbold shocked league leaders Bedford Athletic with an incredible 27-0 victory and Old Laurentians would be very happy with something similar at Fenley Field on Saturday.

In recent weeks OLs have pulled off a series of excellent wins in their bid to escape the relegation zone.

The pressure is mounting for promotion-hunting Rugby Lions, who host Midlands 3 West (South) leaders Evesham at Webb Ellis Road.

Currently third and level on points with second-placed Southam, Lions are four points behind their visitors, with two further games left to play. Their tense season concludes at home to Ledbury on April 16 - the same day as Southam host Evesham.

It’s derby day over in the East division, when mid-table Rugby St Andrews host third-placed Long Buckby at John Tomalin Way.

And ensuring neutral fans are completely spoilt for choice, third-placed Rugby Welsh keep up their challenge to be Midlands 5 West (South) runners-up when they host second-placed Five Ways Old Edwardians at Alwyn Road.

Games kick-off at 3pm.
