Lions played a hastily organised friendly against Earlsdon 2nds on Saturday after league opponents Pershore pulled out of their fixture, unable to raise a team.

Pershore are currently bottom of Midlands 3 West (South) and the awarded points lifted Lions to second in the table on 56 points, just one point behind leaders Evesham on 57 in an incredibly tight division, which is looking like a five-horse race.

Old Coventrians are third with 53 with Ledbury and Southam both on 52 points.

Old Coventrians lost 30-26 at ninth-placed Cheltenham North last weekend, while Evesham beat Ledbury 23-8 and Southam beat Old Leamingtonians 32-29.

After their excellent win over Birmingham Exiles last weekend, Welsh face Long Buckby 2nds in a Clonmel Cup tie this Saturday at Alwyn Road, kick-off 2.15pm.

Old Laurentians are away from home in their re-arranged Midlands 1 East league game with fourth-placed Kettering, while Newbold have a trip to Matlock in a game postponed from new year.

Rugby St Andrews 1st XI are without a game but host St Neots on February 13 at John Tomalin Way.
