TOP sport students from schools around Rugby have enjoyed a day picking up tips from a 2012 olympic prospect.
The Year 9 pupils from Ashlawn, Bilton, Avon Valley and Rugby High schools travelled to the Alan Higgs Centre in Coventry for the first of six Gifted and Talented Academy days, organised by the Eastern Warwickshire School Sport Partnership (EWSSP).
The day included a talk from an inspirational guest speaker, Sara McGreavy, an international athlete. Sprint hurdler Sara, 28, stands a great chance of selection for the London games in the summer.
The students worked with Sara to develop their knowledge and skills, sharing ideas and planning solutions on how to stay motivated in their sport.
During the day the students participated in a number of practical sessions including SAQ, handball and pilates as well as enjoying a session on nutrition and fitness.
The G&T Academy Days are just one way in which the EWSSP supports young people in PE and sport.
The School Sport Partnership, which is based at Harris School, also organises and runs festivals, competitions, student leadership courses, student leadership pathways, participation award schemes, teacher and other adult training and much more.
