Seven teams took part in the Rugby league end of season rounders tournament held at Rugby School.
After a season of numerous cancelled matches due to rain it was a very pleasant surprise to have a Sunday when sun screen had to be used.
The tournament was organised on a round robin basis with the format of 20 good balls for each team in a game.
With matches being potentially won by half a rounder, games were closely contested. Emerging after several games with unbeaten records were Stiff Joints and the 3B’s, and the draw was such that they played each other in the final game. With all other teams finished there was a gallery of spectators and they were not disappointed by the very close and thrilling game that took place.
3 B’s batted first and set a very creditable target in their 20 hits. Stiff Joints responded well with good hitting. With nervous pressure on the outfield, there were several over throws to post fielders allowing batters the extra half rounder culminating in the Stiff Joints just pipping the 3 B’s to be winners of the tournament.
Other trophies were also awarded on the day to winners of the first division - Oddballs, runners up - 3 B’s. Second division winners were the Mad Batters and runners up, the Jollies.
Trophy winners for the most rounders scored over the season were Mary B (Stiff Joints) and Lynda Miller (Mad Batters) and the trophies for players of the season, Division 1 and Division 2 respectively were Nicole Maunder (Stiff Joints) and Nic Rea (Belles of the Ball)
n The organiser would like to thank all captains for their support and tolerance with the weather conditions and particularly Jenny Forshaw for her invaluable assistance.
