Rachel Lloyd of Rugby Swimming Club travelled to Rother Valley in Sheffield for the British Masters Open water championships, and came away with a bronze medal in the 3km event and a British title in the 1.5km event. Swimmers from 25 up to 84 years of age braced the Yorkshire Water in search of medals. Despite training in a 25m pool, and recently competing in a 4x25m relay in the triumphant Mercian team a few weeks ago, Rachel was more confident in her ability in the lake in Sheffield, and this proved warranted.

Swimming in the 40-44 age group, Rachel swam the 3km in the afternoon, and despite a very fast time of 48 mins 29 secs, she finished 3rd. Rachel was very happy to medal, and pleased with the time to complete a day that had started even better. In the morning session Rachel eased 36 seconds ahead of second placed Rebecca Hartley of Barnet, to win in 23mins 34 secs.

So a very successful day, and thoroughly enjoyable if a little cold.
