Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre is a training centre for the September event
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre in Rugby is inviting swimmers to take part in the British Gas SwimBritain 2014.
The leisure centre, on Bruce Williams Way, is a training centre for the big event in September and will be providing support for swimmers taking part.
The British Gas SwimBritain, which is supported by a host of big-name swimmers including fellow London 2012 medallist Rebecca Adlington and comedian David Walliams, is a series of fun team relays taking place across Britain, which hopes to inspire 500,000 people to swim more regularly and get fit.
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre, which is run by Better, the charitable social enterprise, has a host of opportunities to prepare for the event, including its Swim Fit Activate + sessions which imitate the structure of a gym programme. These motivating sessions are delivered by qualified Better-training instructors and take place every Tuesday at 20:00-21:00 and every Friday at 7:30-8:30.
There are two ways to take part in the September challenge; SwimBritain1000 is a four-person relay where each team member swims 250m four times around a specially-designed course in a dedicated 50m pool; while SwimBritain500 is a shorter distance where team members use the same course, swimming half the distance (125m four times). The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre will be a training centre for the SwimBritain challenge.
Georgia Barrett, Community Sport Officer at The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre, said: ‘TheSwimBritain challenge is a great opportunity for everyone, including families to take part. It provides a chance for everyone to participate in a national challenge to reach the same fitness goal and our trainers would like to offer their expertise to help people achieve their best results as well as enjoy a full body workout that swimming provides.”
