Runner-up in AEGON Under 14s at Edgbaston

Talented young tennis star Jake Hersey has enjoyed more success in reaching the final of the U14 AEGON Junior International at Edgbaston - his second final in as many weeks.

Unfortunately this proved to be a match too far with Jake finishing runner-up after a punishing two weeks in which he has played ten singles and five doubles matches, including a very tough three-set singles semi-final lasting over three hours in searing heat.

Both tournaments have been fantastic experience for Jake, who said: “I am really pleased with how I have played in reaching both finals and I feel it is a great achievement.

“My target at the moment is to keep improving my European ranking and building my experience over the next months in, so I can hopefully start entering the lower grade Junior ITF tournaments towards the end of this year and build up from there.” Jake has been playing European events since January in the UK, Portugal, Slovenia, Holland and Germany and he has had to work hard to achieve his current European ranking of 179.

Players have to win up to three qualifying rounds just to get in the main draw and it is only in the main draw when you get points.

These two finals will help improve his ranking.

Jake would like to thank sponsors Babolat for their support.
