Rugby LTC Open Vets

Mixed Doubles 2011

Once again Rugby was blessed with some lovely weather for the first running of an Open Vets Mixed Doubles event. The only down side was there was only one pair from other clubs, however, ten pairs was enough to run a good event.

The competition started with two round robins of five pairs who all played a total of nine games against each other pair. Group A saw Richard & Sara Butler from Leamington winning their four matches to top the group while Tim Morris from Kilsby & Alison Kelly won three to take runners-up spot.

Group B turned out to be a much tighter affair with Graeme Baker & Charlotte Brayson, Justin Grigg & Robyn Crighton and Dave & Jackie Alabastor all winning three out of four matches. However, on total games won Graeme & Charlotte topped the group from Justin & Robyn.

The semi finals saw Richard & Sara winning a tight game against Justin & Robyn 6-4 and Graeme & Charlotte defeated Tim & Alison 6-3. Unfortunately for Graeme & Charlotte, Richard & Sara saved their best for the final as they went on to win by 6 games to 2.

In the consolation knockout semi-finals Roger Allen & Lisa Webb beat Nigel & Amanda Trodd 6-0 and Duncan Grime & Lesley Hole repeated the same score against Dave & Jackie Alabastor. The final saw Roger & Lisa running out 6-3 winners.

Organiser Graeme Baker would like to thank everyone who made it a successful day and hopes to see more entries from other Warwickshire clubs next year.
