Over 50 young triathletes took part in Rugby Junior Triathlon’s invitational event at Rugby School Sports Centre on April 1.

Divided into age groups, the youngsters made the most of the weather and this early season practice event to post some excellent performances.

Rugby Junior Chairman John Austin said: “It was a fantastic afternoon with inspiring performances across all the age groups. We’re also very pleased that entrants from Stratford, Solihull and Coventry tri clubs were able to join us. It gave our practice event the feel of a real race.

“We mustn’t forget, however, that we’ve been able to run this event thanks to support from our sponsors and contributors Vision Express, Coventry Building Society, Caterpillar, Sainsbury, Webb Ellis and most recently Bees Knees Travel.”

The first girl and boy in each section were:

Tri Start (8 years): Ella-Mae Fereday 10:17; Charlie Glover 9:36 (Swim 50m, Bike 800m, Run 600m)

Tri Star 1 (9/10years): Nicole Smith 18:50; Skip Snelson 14:08 (Swim 150m, bike 1600m, run 1200m)

Tri Star 2 (11/12years): Holly Glover 24:52; Tristan Beardshaw 22:32 (Swim 200m, bike 2400m, run 1800m)

Tri Star 3 (13/14 years): Annie Cox 26:36; Aiden McGuirk 24:46 (Swim 300m, Bike 3200m, run 2400m)

Youth (15/16 years): Caroline Furey 28:16 (swim 400m, bike 3200m, run 2400m)

Triathlon is three sports undertaken as one - swimming, cycling and running - if you are interested in taking part more information concerning the club’s adult and junior sections can be found at www.rugbytriathlon.org.uk. You can join in with the Junior Club at their Sunday training sessions at Rugby School and participate in any or all of the disciplines.
