Rugby Junior Triathlon Club are pleased to announce the appointment of their Club Captains for this season. Voted for by the Junior members, Jessica Butterworth, Alex Considine, Niamh Emery & Chris Rouse were successful in being re-appointed to the captains’ roles for a second year.
The Junior Club is very popular and members aged 8 to 15 train every Sunday at Rugby School. The team spirit, friendships and support is evident when you see the juniors in training and also when competing at triathlon events around the country.
Qualified Level 1 and 2 triathlon coaches take the juniors through their paces in the disciplines of swimming, cycling and running.
The sessions are designed to suit all ages and abilities and over the past five years the club have helped in the development of some fabulous young athletes. The Club are keen to welcome new members to the sport of Triathlon & anyone interested can visit www.rugbytriathlon.co.uk. First session is free!
The Club Captains play a very important role in communicating with the Juniors & Tri Club committee, looking after the Juniors & organising Club social events.
Alex Considine – Club Captain- age 16
I love Triathlons!
I have been training ever since I was 12, so for around four years and when I started it was the first time that I had ever done anything so challenging and hard. I soon made friends, and was quickly coming every week.
I love meeting my friends for two hours every Sunday and also, of course training hard so I can hopefully not come last in my events! The events are great fun as well, and that is what I do the training for. I love being around other people from Tri club and supporting them on the day of the event, and also throughout the two hours in training.
Jess Butterworth – Club Captain – age 13
I’ve been with Rugby Tri, for three years now and the experience has been one to remember. I discovered triathlon and it transfixed me to give it a go because to me it was another challenge to conquer, and that’s where I started.
Over the years Rugby Tri has helped my technique in running and fitness which has helped my swimming get better. Rugby Tri also opened the doors to cycling competitively, proficiently and safely, and I have enjoyed it tremendously.
I am happy to be club captain again and look forward to working with the club and its members towards another successful year.
Objectives for this year: compete in more competitions and stage a couple of good socials.
Chris Rouse – Club Captain – age 12
I have been competing in Triathlon for the last three seasons. As well as being a member of Rugby Tri Club I also train with Rugby Swimming Club, Solihull Cycling Club & Sphinx Athletic Club. I really enjoy the friendly atmosphere at Rugby Tri Club and have made lots of friends since joining. My favourite things about Triathlon are Open Water Swimming and fancy training shoes! I have an ambition to one day become an Ironman.
Niamh Emery – Club Captain – age 12
I’ve been a member of Rugby Triathlon Club for 4 years and hope to stay as it helps me to stay fit and healthy. All the training sessions are really useful and help you but at the same time you have lots of fun. The races are great to take part in and at the end you feel like you’ve achieved something! Also it’s great to look back at your times from other races and see how you’ve improved.
