TROUT FISHING

This week has seen a mixed bag of weather and mixed returns at Draycote Water.

Gary Edmunds and J. Gillies took this seasons best bag weight to a staggering 12 fish for 48LB 3oz. They fished through the middle of the lake on tube flies using a rudder. Steve Rainbow took(yes that’s his name!) the best fish of the week, a cracking 8lb brown, caught off Lincroft Point on a silver lure, whilst N. Bridges took the best number of fish for the week, landing 20 fish to the boat.

The strong gusty winds and heavy down pours have hampered most days this last week with fishing results reflecting this. Friday was the best days weather for the week, and the fish responded well. I managed a day out and my partner & I had 13 fish to the boat, mostly on a fast glass with a booby and 3 Diawl Bachs.

Bank anglers have faired well this week too, with the majority of them catching, many having their limits! Dunns Bay, Biggin Bay, Lincroft Point, and the Hensbrough Bank have been the hotspots to try. The water does now have a tinge of green in it, but this does not appeared to have affected the fishing, although down wind of it, it has built up to leave the water clarity very low.

The best methods from both bank and boat have been the washing line with both buzzers and Diawl Bachs, orange blobs, FAB blobs, Tube flies, black & green lures, wet daddies.

Draycote Water is holding a Lexus Individual competition on Sunday the 31st of July. Anyone interested in fishing this can call the fishing lodge to book their place.
