TALENTED rider Alice Vickers has won the UK Riders Challenge 2011, at Arena UK.

A national competition series aimed at unaffiliated combinations of horse and rider, the Challenge has a three-tier competition structure and local qualifiers are held at centres around the country.

Successful partnerships then go on to compete in Regional Finals, and the challenge culminates in the National Finals, which were held on August 13.

Alice, 16, from Binley Woods has been riding at Castle Hill for many years. She competes on Mister Sox, a pony she has owned for nearly three years. Alice said: “I’ve been enjoying many successes at various competitions for both showing and show jumping, however, winning this was just fantastic.

“However, none of this would have been possible without the coaching and support from Castle Hill Riding School in Wolston and of course my family.”

Alice won the senior section of the 80cm show jumping, having two clear rounds in the fastest time of 34.73 seconds, making Alice and her partner Mister Sox champions for 2011.

Having just left Harris School with excellent results in her GCSEs, Alice starts her A level studies at Rugby High School next week.
