Joe Spooner Memorial Game
Lawrence Sheriff School Under-13s 101 for 4
Newbold Under-13s 104 for 2
This annual fixture in memory of Joe Spooner played between his former school and club team was a great advert for U13 cricket in Rugby.
Newbold won the toss and invited Sheriff to bat and after losing two early wickets the school side recovered well to post a challenging 101 for 4 in their 20 overs. Ross Lienau carried his bat for an unbeaten 38, with other contributions from Howes, Nawaz and Davenport.
Sinclair, Bale and Kirk all bowling tidy spells for Newbold and despite a few dropped catches the rest of their ground fielding was good.
Newbold’s response started badly as Nawaz removed Brown but Keiron Parry and Dylan Tellyn with 23 not out repaired the damage.
Once Parry was bowled by Nawaz for 8 Dylan was joined at the crease by Oli Basham who compiled an elegant 32 not out as this pair added an unbeaten 68 to complete a Newbold victory in 15 overs.
Superb running between the wickets played a major part in Newbold achieving the victory.
Thanks to all the spectators who turned up to watch on a sunny morning and to Lawrence Sheriff school for continuing to support this important fixture in Newbold cricket clubs calendar.
The club also wishes to extend its thanks to the Barley Mow Newbold for sponsorship of new shirts for Newbold at all levels and to Lenoch Engineering for continued sponsorship of youth cricket in Newbold.
