Rugby Lionesses enjoyed their first full 15-a-side rugby match on Sunday against Rushden & Higham Ladies, who were touring Rugby.
Even though the Lionesses lost, it was evident by the sheer determination on their faces and by each tackle, which none of them shied away from, that they were up for the challenge.
Nobody’s head dropped and their efforts both up front and in the backs was clear to see.
The Lionesses are a spirited bunch of women and after a hard match on a hard pitch they were still able to raise a smile at the final whistle, which shows how much fun was had by them in what was a new experience.
The game, which was played in four quarters, proved to be a valuable exercise in playing and coaching and both teams celebrated the end of the match together by sharing a drink in the round on the centre of the pitch.
Even though the Rugby Lionesses are still in their infancy, they are forming a team very well as the squad has been built through word of mouth alone.
If you are interested in joining Rugby’s only ladies rugby team they train on Tuesday evenings at The Rugby Lions Football Club in Webb Ellis Road from 7pm until 8.30pm, on the first team pitch.
There is a team of experienced qualified coaches at every session to work with newcomers and experienced players.
There have been at-least three ladies who have attended training to try it out and said that the game is ‘not for them’ so all you have to do is turn up give it a go, you might just like it! Ami Wright is the Lionesses manageress and can be contacted on 07403 198247.
