Defeat for Newbold in rearranged game
There were differing fortunes for Rugby’s two Midlands 1 East sides on Saturday - the only teams with league fixtures over the weekend.
Old Laurentians notched up their first points of the season, beating fellow strugglers Matlock 24-22 at Fenley Field.
Newbold slipped down the table as they lost 35-20 at Wellingborough, in a game rearranged from last week due to the unavilabilty of a refereee. It was only the Parkfield Road side’s second defeat of the season, and sees them fourth now behind Derby, Kettering and Bedford Athletic. Wellingborough are fifth.
This weekend, OLs have a trip to Newark while Newbold host Northampton Old Scouts. Rugby Lions are away at Pershore in Midlands 3 West (South) while in East (South) Rugby St Andrews are at home to St Ives at their John Tomalin Way ground in Ashlawn Road.
Rugby Welsh and Birmingham Exiles, currently third and fourth in Midlands 5 West (South) play at Alwyn Road, Bilton.
