Never before has Princethorpe College had so many U14 boys selected to represent Warwickshire Rugby. Five Year 9 players: Sam McKosker-New, Harry Smith, Callum Cooke, James Crabtree and Jack Hewitt excelled at a district selection tournament held just before Christmas.

From a pool of over 150 hopefuls the final 50 were whittled down to play again before keen eyed selectors at Newbold Rugby Club, where the further decisions were made.

Unsuspecting, but ever optimistic, the Princethorpe five were thrilled to receive news that they had made the final County squad. With Warwickshire training due to commence at the end of January this formidable combination of second row, hooker, scrum half and centres will play together to pull forces making Warwickshire a sparkling side to be reckoned with.

Princethorpe College U14 Captain Jack Hewitt spoke for the boys expressing his delight at receiving County Honours.

“We had an unbeaten season last year winning 100% of our games; this year we’ve lost 5 and won 12 so the team has been in transition with new players and a new coach, Mr Turns. We’re really looking forward to developing new skills through County training to bring back to Princethorpe for the 2016 season.”

Master In Charge of Rugby at Princethorpe College, Pete Bucknall, added: “The five of them will be superb ambassadors for the game. They play with enthusiasm and clear enjoyment. Their County selection is fully justified reflecting the hard work they put in on the training field and the competition pitch.”
