Great warm up for Under 9s’ three April festivals
U9s: Old Laurentians v Atherstone: A perfect sunny morning was replicated by a perfect display of free flowing, open rugby by OLs Under 9s, who continue to enjoy their Sunday morning fixtures. Atherstone RFC were the visitors this week and from the start struggled to keep up with the pace OLs played at.
All three of the U9s teams showed a keenness to let the ball do the hard work and displayed some passing and offloads that sometimes were beyond their years. Sebastian S, James N and Max Bon were keen to show their pace when allowed and went over for a couple of tries as did Finlay C, who had a knack of being in the right place at the right time. Strong straight running by Niamh E and Max H kept OLs going forward and Zach H had another strong day. Strong defensive work from Max F, Dylan M and Noah U helped the home side keep Atherstone to a low try count.
All in all, a great warm up for OLs’ three upcoming festivals throughout April where they hope to see some success.
U7s: Old Laurentians v Atherstone: This week’s fixture welcomed a lively and determined Atherstone side to Fenley Field. The OLs U7s squad used this opportunity to play some training games amongst themselves and then took it in turns to test their skills against a brave Atherstone team.
Once again, the OLs boys and girls excelled in their discipline, understanding of the game and teamwork which saw some super tries from Lucas T, Henry S, Jonah M and Thomas D-A. This skilful squad of 6/7 years olds gave the crowd an enjoyable performance with notable contributions from Ewan T, Lucas H and Lulu S.
The morning was concluded with the OLs’ customary rendition of ‘The Humpty Dumpty Haka’ followed by hotdogs!
