Excellent season so far
Going into yesterday’s games Newbold’s season has been excellent to date, with a senior team playing record of P 21, W 18, L 3, F 653, A 299 in all competitions. They are sitting at a well placed 2nd position in the league and reached the last 4 of the Midlands Intermediate cup. With seven league games left, four of which are at home, they really do have a fantastic promotion opportunity. They have put a dip in form at the end of November behind them and have won their last six games. They have to play all the sides that beat them, with two of them having to travel to Parkfield Road. It promises to be an exciting run in to the end of the season.
The 2nd team have also gone extremely well having won 12 of their 16 games, reaching the Clonmell Cup final, beating St Andrews and Old Laurentians on the way. Their most noteable scout though, in this competition was the win over the mighty Rugby Lions, still the only side this season to have beaten them. Field Marshall Fletcher’s team have a great chance to finish the season with one of their best ever playing records.
Chopper Wilson’s mixture of young and old in this season’s third team has also taken them to 12 wins out of 16 games, a superb record given they were promoted into a league where they are now playing a number of 2nd teams such as Leamington, Old Leams, Southam, Nuneaton Old Eds and Spartans.
Newbolds young under 18 colts team are developing into a fine side, Martin Reed and Martin Green are enjoying watching their teams grow and improve week in, week out. Ian Cahill’s U15 side have now started to play their first games and the juniors and minis are thriving.
Gareth Bevan and Lee Dicey have started training with an U9 side and Alan Bale is working with the U6 & U7s. In addition to this, Damo Gray has commenced Ladies tag on a Sunday afternoon. All sides are looking to recruit, so if you are interested in training in a superb, fun environment, please contact Alan Bale on 07785 712443 or through Newbold On Avon RFC.
