It wasn’t the weekend our first teams were hoping for, with three league defeats and a draw.

In Midlands 1 East, Newbold travelled to leaders Bedford Athletic, who showed their class in a 53-5 home victory. Newbold stay third in the table, while unfortunate Old Laurentians are still rooted at the bottom, although improving all the time. This week OLs went down 65-3 at Wellingborough.

In Midlands 3 West (South) Lions had a very poor day by recent standards and could ony draw 11-11 at Southam. It leaves them fourth and fifth in the table, respectively.

Rugby St Andrews in the East division had a local derby game at Daventry and were on the wrong end of a 28-21 scoreline. It leaves the clubs seventh and eighth in the table.

Rugby Welsh had a break from league fixtures.
