Winning weekend for Saints, Lions and Welsh to finish league season on a high
It was a fantastic day for rugby fans at Parkfield Road on Saturday, with the division decider between Newbold and Old Laurentians providing a great game in the spring sunshine.
Newbold won 37-17 to take the Midlands 2 West (South) title from leaders OLs and gain promotion to Midlands 1. OLs now have a home draw at Fenley Field in the play-offs next Saturday (April 25) and will be glad of similar support when the take on Old Saltleians. The winner will earn the other promotion spot.

Rugby St Andrews rounded off their league season in Midlands 3 East (South) with the closest of wins, beating relegated Northampton Mens Own 27-26 at John Tomalin Way. Saints end their campaign in fifth spot, behind champions Rushden & Higham and runners-up Vipers. Long Buckby were third, Oundle fourth and Daventry just behind Saints in sixth.
After their disappointment in the Junior Vase last week, Rugby Lions were back to their usual winning form on Saturday with a 45-13 victory at Coventry Welsh. Already champions of Midlands 4 West (South), Lions enjoy their second consecutive promotion after their return to the league structure.
Rugby Welsh also finished their season on a high note, beating Copsewood 24-0 for fourth place in Midlands 5 West (South). Birmingham Civil Service are champions and Alcester the runners-up.
