Wins for Newbold, Lions and Welsh

Newbold continued their fantastic start to the season with five wins out of five to stretch five points clear at the top of Midlands 1 East. On Saturday they beat Melton Mowbray 37-23.

This weekend Newbold host mid-table Wellingborough at Parkfield Road.

Rugby Lions had a comfortable win at home to seventh-placed Malvern in Midlands 2 West (South). Lions are second in the table, but level on 14 points with leaders Spartans after three games.

This Saturday Lions travel to ninth-placed Nuneaton Old Edwardians.

Over in Midlands 2 East (South) Old Laurentians suffered their first league defat of the season, losing out 31-8 to Peterborough, which drops them down to sixth in a very tight table.

This weekend OLs welcome bottom club Rushden & Higham to Fenley Field.

Rugby St Andrews were again on the wrong side of the closest of scorelines, going down 35-36 to third-place Old Coventrians at John Tomalin Way.

Still looking for their first win of the campaign, Saints are away to fourth-placed Old Leamingtonians next weekend in another Midlands 3 West (South) game.

And Rugby Welsh are going well again in Midlands 5 West (South), this week beating Trinity Guild 20-14 away from home. Welsh are top with two wins and nine points, with Trinity Guild seocnd.

This weekend Welsh are at home to third-place side Burbage.
