Wins for Newbold, Lions and Saints ahead of two top-of-the-table clashes next week

Newbold stay top of Midlands 1 East with a maximum 35 points from seven outings. On Saturday they won 25-10 away at Northampton Old Scouts, who are down in seventh.

This weekend will be a game not to be missed, when second-placed old Northamptonians visit Parkfield Road. ONs have been beaten just once and are five points behind Newbold.

It wasn’t such a good day for Old Laurentians, who went down 47-12 on their first visit to Stamford. But Midlands 2 East (South) is an incredibly tight division and while Stamford are second on 16 points, OLs are only just two points behind but down in sixth.

This weekend OLs welcome to Fenley Field eighth-placed Belgrave, who have also won three from five games so far.

Over in Midlands 2 West (South) Rugby Lions beat tenth-placed Pinley 57-27, setting up a potentially thrilling encounter this Saturday. Leaders Spartans visit second-placed Lions at Webb Ellis Road. Both teams have won all five games so far and are level on 24 points.

Rugby St Andrews recorded their much-needed first win of the season in emphatic style, beating Old Wheatleyans 58-12. Saints are now ninth in Midlands 3 West (South), with Old Wheats eighth and this Saturday’s hosts Woodrush tenth.

In Midlands 5 West (South) third-placed Atherstone were awarded the win over Rugby Welsh. This weekend fourth-placed Welsh host second-placed Birmingham Civil Service at Alwyn Road.
