Local rivals meet in Midlands 1 East league match

Rugby enthusiasts will be looking forward to the Old Laurentians v Newbold derby on Saturday. Although the fixture doesn’t have the excitement and anticipation of last season’s encounters when both teams were in title contention, this Midlands 1 East match will still be keenly contested by both sides.

Newbold start as firm favourites having only lost twice this season, both of which could be counted as unfortunate circumstances. They are currently fourth in the table.

Old Laurentians, on the other hand, have a much-changed side from that which gained promotion in last season’s play-offs and although steadily improving have only captured one win so far.

Rugby Lions are away at Woodrush, which sees fourth playing fifth in Midlands 3 West (South).

In 3 East (South) Rugby St Andrews make their first trip to St Neots, who are just a couple of points ahead of the John Tomalin Way side.

Rugby Welsh are away at Copsewood in Midland 5 West (South). Welsh are currently third in the table and Copsewood sixth.
