OLs miss out in important relegation battle

Newbold beat fourth placed Lutterworth 30-20 away on Saturday in Midlands 2 East (South). It keeps them ten points behind leaders Leighton Buzzard, who had a 132-0 win over Northampton BBOB.

Also away, Rugby St Andrews beat struggling Brackley 19-8 in Midlands 3 East (South) and maintain their mid-table position.

Old Laurentians didn’t have such a good day, going down 20-9 at home to Berkswell and Balsall in Midlands 1 West. OLs are fourth from bottom with 40 points from 22 games, with below them Malvern on 35 (21 games), Berkswell & Balsall 32 points (20 games) and Market Bosworth 14 points (21 games). Just above OLs, Barkers Butts have 43 points from 21 games.

With no games in Midlands 5 West (South) Rugby Lions kept in shape for next week’s RFU Midlands Junior Vase final, winning a friendly against Leamington 2nds 95-7.

Rugby Welsh had a close friendly with strong Barkers Butts Tanners, losing 19-10.
