This game had been delayed by weather and the unavailability of players, which continued to inconvenience Rugby, who had to bring in coach Ben Everton to play no. 8 and move captain Dave Campton to centre.
Lions were to dictate much of the play in this game with some excellent running rugby. Newbold for their part played well but were only able to pick and drive and were never going to get through the strong Lions defence.
In the first half, Lions tried too many individual runs only to be caught with no cover. In the second half, the Lions played more as a team and showed their true ability to run out easy winners.
The Lions' eight tries, with six converted, were scored by Fielder (2), Marston (3), Green (2) and Campton.
