RUGBY: Southam

Redditch 30 Southam 8

Southam were looking forward to this game after a close encounter earlier in the season at home, unfortunatelly with a late decision to play the game from redditch due to the frozen ground it left no time before the ko for southam to prepare in all fairness the game should never have been played.

However the game was played and it was Southam who was applying the early pressure with the forwards dominating allowing the backs to have some nice running space unfortunatelly this 20 minutes of pressure resulted in no points. Southam then lost influential centre Steve West with a serious leg injury sustained due to the hard ground and this then took a while for the team to adjust and unfortunately Redditch capitalised with three tries, one being converted. Southam were awarded a penalty which was nicely converted by Russell King and also replied with a well worked try scored by flanker Tom Wright this bringing the close of an eventfull first half and the score being 17-8 in redditch's favour.

The second half saw southam playig up the slope and with the tempreture now dropping the pitch getting harder it was a tough task but again southam adopted well until a knee injury to full back king forced a re shuffle with wright moving back to full back.

Southam unfortunately then ran out of steam and reeddich took control scoring a further penalty and two trys to no reply. Southams defence was again excellent but soon defence has got to be turned in to attack if they are to ensure gaurenteed league saftey.
