RUGBY: Southam
Upton Upon Severn 22 Southam 3
Southam visited Upton hoping to continue their winning ways, but Upton have always been difficult to beat at home. In the first twenty minutes Southam commanded the game in terms of territory and possession, but failed to turn it into points.
The turning point came when Southams indiscipline resulted in a yellow card and Upton used the advantage of an extra man to score to two tries just before half time, and at the half, Southam were 12 points down.
In the second half Southam had the advantage of the wind and domination in the scrums and lineouts, but failed to turn this advantage into points apart from a mere consolation penalty.
Upton's resolute defence in the backs and several misdirected Southam kicks allowed Upton to withhold Southams pressure for thirty minutes and then after some sloppy defending upton came back into the game and was shortly awarded a penalty which was duely converted with time running out and upton playing some good rugby they broke through for a try at the finish.
Some good performaces though for southam in Matt Catterall, Gary Royans, Pete Bicknell and Cpatain Mark Constable
