Evo-Stik League Southern – Central Division

Rugby Town 3 Aylesbury 0

Dave Stringer’s men smashed their own club record for consecutive Southern League wins with a comfortable Easter Monday success at Butlin Road.

The Aylesbury victory extended their 100% run to ten games – surpassing their previous best earlier in the campaign.

Lewis McBride and Sam Youngs returned to the hosts’ starting line-up, as Valley pretty much controlled the game throughout – without necessarily hitting the heights of some previous home triumphs.

Seb Lake-Gaskin and Youngs both tested Simeon Charles early on, before Town’s best chance of the opening period saw Charles save Fazel Koriya’s header to Ellis Myles cross – with David Kolodynski somehow lifting the rebound across the front of an open goal.

Rugby then proceeded to snatch somewhat at their chances for the remainder of the half, with Lake-Gaskin and Myles among those guilty of shooting too early and too wildly.

However Sam Belcher tested Charles soon after the restart with a low free-kick that the Aylesbury keeper turned around the post for the corner, before the visitors made a rare foray into the Town box when Sonny French flashed one across the face of the goal.

However, Valley’s patience finally paid off in the 57th minute, when McBride picked out Kolodynski at the near post, with the striker’s header taking a deflection on the way past Charles.

Stuart Bryant’s speculative long distance effort was taken comfortably by a generally idle Dave Bevan, before Kolodynski added a second when he helped home another McBride assist from Myles’s ball into the penalty area.

Kolodynski completed his personal and his side’s treble ten minutes from time when he drilled one into the net after Youngs had initially struck a post and McBride had seen his rebound attempt blocked.

Brian Haule and French both had opportunities to grab a late consolation for the visitors, but each time the resolute Rugby back-line crowded out their efforts.
