A LARGE crowd gathered at Rugby's Cattle Market for a special remembrance service for animals.
The event was held by animal rights campaigners to pay tribute to animals that had passed through the cattle market since it began in 1878.
It included a two minute silence and several speakers from the charity Animal Aid at the event on Saturday (June 9).
The Cattle Market is now closing and moving to Stoneleigh Park.
Organiser Janet Cummings hailed the service as a great success.
She said: "I was pleased with the turnout and felt it was a very fitting way of paying tribute to all the animals.
"We had people turn up who had travelled from as far a field as Maidenhead and Litchfield.
"I would like to thank everyone who turned up for caring enough to come and making it such a success."
As part of the service Animal Aid donated a special plaque in commemoration of the animals.
It will be placed at the Craven Road site when the area is re-developed into housing.
