WHO IS IT?
Andrew Lawrence, an up-and-coming stand-up comic who’s recently appeared on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow. His current tour is entitled ‘The Best Kept Secret In Comedy’.
WHERE AND WHEN IS IT?
He’s performing tonight at Warwick Arts Centre, Warwick University.
WHAT DOES HE SAY ABOUT IT?
His latest show is a more accessible act, which has come at the price of his cutting, scatterbrained personality becoming slightly diluted. But because of his unique style he remains fresh and original.
While performing his older material some audiences weren’t quite sure what to make of him for the first ten minutes, but they quickly warmed to his energetic, eccentric style.
His latest show has received positive reviews in the national press. The humour is of a fast, cutting and obscure sort, and he’s twice been nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award.
WHAT DO THE CRITICS SAY?
“Andrew could be the defining comedian of his generation” - The Guardian
“With the fractious energy born of frustration that puts one in mind of an evil Lee Evans merging with the verbal assaults of ‘equal opportunities offender’ Jerry Sadowitz, this taut, scrawny ginger comic, with his strangulated London twang, fires his ire any which way” - The Independent
“Where he truly shines is in his bilious streams of relentlessly cutting, staggeringly creative invective: once he sets his beady black eyes on a target, the acrid volleys of dextrously florid abuse unleashed could strip paint. Once he gets a head of steam going, he’s simply brilliant – and yes, wildly offensive” - Metro
