See C.S. Lewis classic in Rugby

The timeless story of four children who discover an enchanted world at the back of their uncle's wardrobe is reinvented for the Rugby Theatre stage this half-term week.

The classic C.S. Lewis tale The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe opens on Saturday at the Henry Street venue, and the production team is promising an exciting, innovative and magical show for all the family.

Director Helen Dulcamara has brought together a young company of local talent for the lavish adaptation, which features not only all the well-loved Narnia characters, but also includes physical theatre, contemporary dance and unforgettable music.

There’s even a teenage orchestra supervised by Lawrence Sheriff music teacher Jon Watson.

The story follows the four Pevensie children who are transported to the enchanted world of Narnia where they find the White Witch has plunged the kingdom into permanent winter.

When the children meet Aslan the Lion, the true ruler of Narnia, they discover that they have a part to play in defeating the Witch and bringing spring back to the land.

Helen said: “This adaptation of story was created for the Royal Shakespeare Company by Adrian Mitchell, and received rave reviews when it was originally performed in Stratford in 1998.

“We’ve managed to bring together an incredibly talented young cast – the oldest of them being just 22 – and they have all poured their hearts and souls into rehearsals.

“I’ve been lucky to have not one but two incredibly creative choreographers in Aaron Gibson and Sophie Pulley, and the amazing Jay Lad has been working tirelessly to produce some spectacular costumes.

“It’s been a fabulous team effort creating something so special, and now we’re really looking forward to getting on the stage and bringing the magic of Narnia to Rugby,” added Helen.
