Jack and the Beanstalk
The Deco Theatre, Northampton Until December 27
Review by Marie Thomas
It could be said that Jack and the Beanstalk at the Deco theatre is not your typical run of the mill pantomime; to quote a number of people I overheard talking “it is more like the old style pantomime” and I think they are absolutely right.
The show was packed with the cast singing current pop songs that fit in with whatever is going on in the performance mixed in with a few classics such as Row Row Row Your Boat. Danielle McCormack stole the show with some beautiful performances.
However to the untrained ear of my five-year-old guest this didn’t matter and the excitement was evident when she heard songs by One Direction. One aspect of the show I had not seen used before was LCD panels around the stage, various graphics flashed up over the course of the show helping to emphasise what was going on, including the presence of the Giant. It has to be noted that CJ De Mooi played the part of Fleshcreep to perfection and was a far scarier bad guy than the Giant.
If you are looking for the more traditional family pantomime then this one is just the ticket.
