Every year since 1990 the Dunchurch Pantomaniacs have staged a pantomime in the village, which makes this year’s 25th play a significant milestone.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears will be staged between January 23 and February 1, with a gala tonight, which includes a meal, from 6.30pm.
Some of the original cast and backstage crew who were involved a quarter of a century ago are also involved in this latest production, and this year the Dunchurch Pantomaniacs will have two families with a third generation on stage.
The Pantomaniacs first got together in 1989 and they put on their first pantomime, Little Miss Muffat, in January 1990 in the Dunchurch WI Hall. The original group mainly came from the Dunchurch Festival Committee and although they were very enthusiastic they had little idea on how to produce a show. They were fortunate to get the services of the late Ray Allen as director as he had considerable theatrical experience with Rugby Theatre and The Gang Show.
This year Goldilocks and the Three Bears promises to deliver all the fun and sparkle that a silver anniversary show deserves.
As well as entertaining villagers with their high quality and fantastically enthusiastic shows the group have involved over 250 local children in their productions and raised around £40,000 for local good causes.
Quite how Ant & Dec, a mad professor and buttercup the cow get in on the act you will just have to work out by getting tickets for the show, but a couple of hours of fun and laughter from the Pantomaniacs will be guaranteed. Tickets are on sale from Wanda’s Ladies Fashions (01788) 522021.
