All-star line-up for ‘best’ Warwick folk festival

THE Warwick Folk Festival returns this month with an “all-star” line-up.

A packed programme of music, song and dance comes to town in the last weekend of July and will again be a four-day event.

Festival director Dick Dixon said: “The festival presents great family entertainment and you don’t have to be an specialist fan to enjoy the wide range of music, dance and spectacle that it brings to Warwick each year.

“It’s always a popular event and we’re confident that 2011 will be our best year yet.”

From July 28 to 31 the festival will take over the town, with free events in Market Place as well as the main site at Warwick School, and also coincides with the annual Smith Street party held by its traders.

Among the big names headlining this year are Show of Hands, Peatbog Faeries, Spiers and Boden and the big hit from last year’s festival - Salsa Celtica.

Quirky Australian choir the Spooky Men’s Chorale, who have a real cult following worldwide, will also be appearing, along with hundreds of other bands, dancers and musicians.

Mr Dixon confirmed that tickets are well up on last year - which brought over 20,000 visitors, and is hoping the 32nd festival will get closer to the 30,000 people mark.

Warwick town centre manager Matt Caddick said: “The annual Folk Festival is the best weekend in Warwick’s calendar.

“There will be quality performances down on the festival site and entertainment throughout the town centre including free concerts in the square, performances in pubs and a street party in Smith Street.

“The organisers are working extremely hard to put on another fantastic show.”
