Busy autumn planned for art gallery

THIS autumn will see a busy season of events at Leamington Art Gallery and Museum, with a host of exhibitions and workshops lined up.

Currently on display, and running until September 18, is the Lord Leicester’s Warwickshire exhibition.

Included in the exhibition is a portrait of Robert Dudley the Earl of Leicester, loaned to the gallery by the Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick, as well as a postcard showing a scene from the Warwick Pageant of 1906 and Queen Elizabether visiting the town in 1572.

On Friday September 9, to coincide with the Heritage Open Days, the gallery will be offering free guided tours of the Royal Pump Rooms, where visitors can find out about the building’s vibrant history and discover what goes on behind the scenes.

Thursday September 15, at 5.30pm, will see the return of the popular Life Drawing Classes for adults.

The six week series will run until October 20 and is put on by Craft Studio. It aims to give budding artists the opportunity to enjoy untutored drawing sessions with a life model.

Participants should take their own drawing equipment, and the cost is £30 for six sessions. Places are limited, and very popular so those interested should book a place.

Starting on Friday September 16 will be a launch of new displays in the art gallery.

You can join Chloe Johnson and Alice Swatton for an introduction to the re-hang of the displays in the Art Gallery. This event is part of the regular Friday Focus programme held every week at the gallery at 1pm. Among those pieces on display will be Zachary Eastwood-Bloom’s Information Ate My Table.

Running right through until November will be the Lab Craft: Digital Adventures exhibition and workshops.

Lab Craft features 26 makers who combine the hand, mind, eye, technical mastery of tools and materials and aesthetic sensibility, with cutting-edge digital technologies such as rapid prototyping, laser cutting, laser scanning and digital printing. It explores the use of technology as an extension to the capabilities of the human hand.
