Celebrated Canadian band in free concert in Sydenham

A free concert by a Canadian band who have won international awards is forming part of Sydenham’s 50th anniversary celebrations this weekend.

The Brampton Concert Band which, founded in 1884, is one of the oldest community concert bands in Canada, have played in Austria, France, Ireland, Italy and Switzerland - and will give a free concert at the Sydni Centre on Friday (July 4) at 11.30am.

Originally comprised of employees of the local ‘Haggert Foundry’ and called the Brampton Mechanics’ Band, the band has undergone several metamorphoses during its fascinating history before becoming the Brampton Concert Band during the 1970s. The ensemble now perform under the direction of internationally-renowned trumpet player and composer Vince Gassi.
