Get creative with cars at Warwickshire centre

Artist Ian Cook from PopBangColour is leading a ‘Painting By Wheels’ workshop on Saturday February 16. For the past five years, Ian has been creating artworks using radio controlled cars, car tyres and wheels.

He will show youngsters how he makes his creations and participants will have the chance to have a go at painting with remote controlled cars for themselves. The centre says the sessions are ideal for those who like creative arts, remote controlled cars, and GCSE students looking for alternative coursework ideas.

Places at the half-day workshops cost £20 for children and £25 for adults and include entry into the museum.

On Sunday February 17 and Tuesday February 19, the Land Rovers Imagineering Trust is bringing its K’nex ‘electric buggy challenge’ drop-in sessions to the centre, giving children the chance to design, build and test a three or four-wheeled spring or electric motor driven buggy.

Simple three-wheeled pull back motor buggies will be offered for younger children, while the over-eights will have the chance to build a four-wheeled vehicle that can traverse a model test track with speed bumps - and the best model-makers will be awarded spcial prizes.

On Monday February 18, children can meet some of the talented team who compete in Greenpower’s electric car race events.

Then on Wednesday February 20, professional photographer Lara Platman - who has been working in the motorsports industry for more than 15 years - will show participants in the centre’s ‘Cars through the Lens’ workshop how to use their cameras, set up the perfect shot, upload it to the internet and edit pictures. Places for this cost £25, which includes entry to the museum.

To round off a creative half term, the centre is hosting an ‘Auto Science Live’ craft day on Thursday February 21 from 10.30am to 3pm. The drop-in session will give children the opportunity to decorate and race their own cotton reel racer.

Normal museum admission prices apply for all events except for the sessions with Ian Cook and Lara Platman. Entry costs £12, £8 for five to 16-yeare-olds and free for under-fives, with concessions and family tickets available.
