In the Mood for some wartime memories

The sounds of the Big Band and Glenn Miller era will be in Leamington as part of a tour to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day.

With guest vocalists Georgina Jackson and Sam Merrick, the Nick Ross Orchestra will faithfully recreate the sound of the Big Bands, including those led by Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey and Syd Lawrence.

Audiences will be treated to a full line-up of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and a rhythm section.

The 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) is on May 8 and marks the day in 1945 when the Allies accepted Germany’s unconditional surrender.

The Nick Ross Orchestra will perform at the Royal Spa Centre on May 23, from 7.30pm.

The performance will include favourites numbers such as Moonlight Serenade, In the Mood, A String of Pearls, Little Brown Jug and American Patrol to evoke memories of the wartime and the Blitz spirit.

The Nick Ross Orchestra uses arrangements exactly as recorded in the Great Swing Era of the 40s and the promoters said the concert celebrating the Big Band greats promises to be an “unmissable” evening of music and song.

Tickets are £19.50 and £18 concessions. Phone the box office on 01926 334418 or go to Spa Centre
