Join Alan in Warwick as he marks the Jubilee

WARWICK Words’ festival committee are welcoming broadcaster, novelist, journalist and gardening expert Alan Titchmarsh to the town for an event to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Audiences can join Alan as he looks back at Queen Elizabeth’s 60 years on the throne at the Guy Nelson Hall at Warwick School in Myton Road, Warwick, on Wednesday July 18 at 8pm.

The talk comes after the publication of his latest book, Elizabeth: Her Life, Our Times: A Diamond Jubilee Celebration.

Offering a charming and evocative portrait of the royal family, the book follows the Queen’s Christmas messages, pulling out quotes on particular themes, and exploring the wider contexts behind them.

From royal weddings and births, to historical events and cultural milestones, Alan creates a series of meticulously-researched and telling snapshots, which builds a fascinating picture of a traditional monarchy ever evolving in modern Britain.

Alan has close links with the Royal Family, and will bring huge personal passion to this subject.

Tickets, which cost £12 (£10 concessions), are now available. Call 776438.

The talk is part of a programme of Warwick Words Festival Xtra events taking part this summer in the run-up to the festival, which will be held at various venues around the town between September 28 and October 7.

As well as talks and readings, the programme will include storytelling sessions, writing workshops and competitions, poetry slams, open mic events and poetry pub trails.

Full details will be announced next month, but in the meantime, anyone wishing to order a free festival brochure can email [email protected], including their name and postal address.
