Join an ‘excellent’ Warwickshire orchestra

WARWICKSHIRE’s newest youth orchestra is on the look-out for more talented young recruits.

Spires Youth Orchestra, which made its concert debut in January, is holding an open rehearsal at Bath Place Community Venture at the Old Library in Avenue Road, Leamington, tonight (Thursday).

The not-for-profit orchestra currently has 48 players on its books, but hopes to increase this to 70 to create a full symphonic orchestra. Its main vacancies are in the woodwind section - in particular clarinets and bassoons - and in percussion.

Young players, teachers and parents are being invited to the rehearsal, at which the players will get the chance to play pieces from this term’s repertoire, as well as specially chosen music which regular members will not have played before.

People will also be able to find out about forthcoming concerts and tours being arranged by the orchestra and meet the youth orchestra musical team.

Orchestra manager Michael Williamson said: “As a youth orchestra, we are achieving an excellent standard and we need to look to the future to maintain numbers of players in all the sections, so that we can continue to offer this unique musical opportunity to young musicians across the region.”

The rehearsal takes place from 7pm to 9.30pm. To find out more, call Mr Williamson on 07514 284311.
