Lap-tapping Jake shares his passion at Warwick Arts Centre

A TAPPING, slapping, strumming and singing rising star of the British music industry is ending a hugely successful year with a gig at Warwick Arts Centre this Friday.

Jake Morley, who performs the unusual style of ‘lap-tapping’ his guitar along with a team of musicians, has this year enjoyed a sold-out album launch, support from national and local radio stations, a summer of festivals and his first back-to-back UK tour.

Having built up a strong core of London fans since 2008, the 28-year-old has found national fame since releasing his debut album, Many Fish to Fry, on his own independent label in February.

Speaking ahead of the finale to his tour at the arts centre in Coventry, Jake said: “This tour is probably one of the coolest things I have done in my life. I have absolutely loved it.

“People don’t realise how important the audience is in a gig. There is a massive difference between each audience and they are all participants - not spectators. It’s the crowds who shape the gigs.”

While Jake, who writes all his own songs, is shy about explaining his success, he does think his passion could be what appeals to people. He said: “We have a lot of fun when we play. We really care about our music and express ourselves. We put our heart and soul into our playing.

“If I am going to sing a song every night, it’s important that the words mean something to me. They are not always autobiographical, but they are always about things that I know about.”

So what’s next for this busy young talent? “We are planning to launch the album properly next year”, he said.

“But first, I am going to have a massive party to celebrate the end of the tour, then sleep for a week.”

Jake Morley is at Warwick Arts Centre on Friday November 18 at 7.45pm. Tickets cost £6.50. Call 024 7652 4524 or go online.
