More than 600 people are already members - but the Royal Leamington Spa Decorative and Fine Arts Society (RLSDFAS) is reaching out to even more who they feel could benefit from joining them.

The group, which formed as part of the National Association of the Decorative and Fine Arts Society (NADFAS) in 1993, aims to promote the appreciation of arts and organises regular lectures at the Spa Centre, as well as study days, day trips and short breaks around the country and abroad.

Members also volunteer at galleries around the area, while the group funds art projects for young people and supports the Playbox Theatre Company in Warwick and Warwickshire School of Art,

Member Felicity Furber said: “I am sure there are many people, such as art students, who would gain something from being members.

“The lecturers tend to be a mixture of academics and practising artists and they come from a very wide spectrum.”

Lectures are held on the first Wednesday of the month at the Spa Centre in Leamington at 11am and 2pm - except in August, September and January. The next one will be ‘Turner – the Sun is God’ by Douglas Skeggs on October 1. The next year’s programme also includes talks on the history of textiles, on the world history of toys and on music and on arts and the war between 1800 and 2000 (including discussion of the artwork by Delacroix pictured here). Membership costs £35 a year and lectures for members are free to attend. Guests can also attend if accompanied by a member.
