Mr Country returning to stage after 20 years

LEAMINGTON’S Mr Country and Western is preparing to make his return to the stage after a 20-year absence.

Lane Travis, now 75, was the heart and soul of a thriving country music scene in the town, and was president of the Leamington Country and Western Club.

Now he has teamed up with Leamington rock legends of Chevy fame Bob Poole on bass and Ted Duggan on drums, along with John Sharman on guitar and fiddle player Andy Taylor, for a comeback gig guaranteed to get feet tapping.

Lane said: “We’ll be doing the traditional show numbers that are on the records. Things like Johnny Cash and Jim Reeves, real good country music.

“I’m born and raised in Leamington, although live down south now, and am looking forward to getting back on stage

“I will probably be nervous - it’s the first time on stage with a band for about 20 years.”

Bob Poole said: “The Chevy reunion show was such a success this seemed like a great time to get Lane back on stage.

“All the band know the songs, we are just doing it for the love of it. The songs will bring back all the fantastic memories.”

They will be performing at the St Patrick’s Irish Club in Adelaide Road on Friday March 4. Doors open at 7.30pm, with admission £5.
