Peter Walters, who worked at the Coventry Telegraph for 20 years and was then a city promotions manager, has this written The Story of Coventry, featuring images of the city which have never been used in a book before.

The story includes all the familiar highlights – the tale of Lady Godiva, the city’s defiance of Charles I, the coming of modern industries and the blitz of 1940. But it also sheds light on many lesser known episodes. Peter said: “This a story of triumph and tragedy, riot and war, inventiveness and high achievement, ceremonial and starvation.”

The book is available in Warwick Books, Kenilworth Books and mainstream book shops, priced £17.99.
