A gun salute and renditions of It’s a Long Way to Tipperary and other well-known First World War tunes will lead up to a fireworks finale at this year’s Battle Proms at Ragley Hall near Stratford next weekend.

The outdoor event takes place in the grounds of the Ragley estate in Alcester on Saturday August 16.

Starting with cavalry displays in First World War regalia, the concert programme includes The Rockabellas performing a medley of songs popularised during the war, a gun salute by an original First World War 13 pounder field gun and an orchestral performance of Lest we Forget - a specially-created work which includes It’s a Long Way to Tipperary, What a Friend We Have in Jesus (the tune used by soldiers for When this Bloody War is Over) and Mademoiselle from Armentières, recognisable to most of us as the tune to Hinky Dinky Parlez-Vous, before ending with a solo trumpet performance of The Last Post.
