Powerful, intimate theatre at Coventry venue

Tales From The Street, Bootleg Theatre Company, Taylor Johns Music and Arts Centre, Coventry, April 10.

Tales From The Street, a suite of four monologues, explores the reality of life for people on the street whose voices are rarely heard.

Des Res, by Coventry writer Gwynne Power, was an earnest and revealing performance of a young homeless lad played by Jonathan Baynham.

Polly Abbott was both funny and touching as Selena, a student nurse paying her way as a prostitute who encounters a client in a STD clinic and Annie Cooper was memorable as the alcoholic mother Esme, kicked out of her home because of her drinking.

The evening was topped by Stewart Taylor in Pet Shop Boy, a hilarious tale of a burglar who broke into an animal hospital and was detained by a python.

Taylor Johns was the perfect venue for Bootleg’s brand of powerful, intimate theatre.
