The Official Receivers will swing into action at their first appearance at the Zephyr Lounge in Spencer Street, where people can clap, stomp and sing along to classics by Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Booker T and Edwin Starr.

The band’s name was chosen during the recession of 1991, when its original members decided to form a fun soul band.

Now in similar circumstances and after a little bit of shuffling, the line-up includes guitarist Rick, bass player Dave and sax players Phil and Chris - all of whom have been there from the start, along with drummer Tony, trumpeter Paul and Simon on keyboards.

Chris Southorn of the group said: “We’re looking forward to playing the Zephyr Lounge and adding new friends to the many they have gained over the years.

“Join the crowd who share the Official Receivers’ love of classic sixties Stax, enjoy the band’s powerful sound and contribute to an evening of energy and fun.

“The band love their music and love their audience. Whether you’re into soul or into having a good time, this is a must.”

For tickets to the gig, which cost £7, call the Assembly box office on 0844 854 1358 and to read more about the band, visit www.officialreceivers.net
