Some 80 concerts in three months for classical fans

Music to your Ears, which promotes recitals of great and lesser-known works, has just published its programme fore the coming months, with some 80 concerts taking place before Christmas.

Virtually all the concerts listed for September are in churches. St Mary Magdalene in Lillington has three organ recitals on Wednesdays – Peter Summers on September 2, Adrian Moore on September 9 and John Wilderspin on September 16. Holy Trinity church in Leamington has lunchtime concerts on Fridays – baritone Andrew Parkes on September 4 and Thomas Abela guitar and Ali Rafiee on the oud on September 18.

The annual Kenilworth Festival takes place over four days starting on Friday September 4. A range of buildings are used including the Kenilworth Rugby Club for a jazz concert and on Sunday September 6 there is a piano recital by Samuele Rossini in St Nicholas’s church.

Music at Leamington Hastings continues its season in All Saints’ church on Saturday 12 September with a recital by Alexander Sitkovetsky on violin and Wu Quian on piano, which includes sonatas by Prokofiev and Franck.

Towards the end of the month there are a range of bigger scale concerts. On Sunday September at 3pm 20 the Leamington Chamber Orchestra conducted by Richard Laing performs in Leamington Town Hall. The programme includes Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with Daniel Sanford-Casey as soloist.

On Saturday September 26, there is a Choral Workshop with Brian Kay working on Brahms’s Requiem. This is open to all singers and runs 10am to 5pm at North Leamington School. It is promoted by Royal Leamington Spa Bach Choir, which will give its first concert on November 7, with a programme of Haydn and Mozart in All Saints Church in Leamington.

On the evening of September 26, there are two concerts in Warwick. Armonico Consort performs an all Bach programme of motets and the Goldberg Variations in St Mary’s church, while Oriflamme has a programme of Caplet, David Loeb and Mozart in St Nicholas’s church.
