Chiltern’s expanding passenger numbers

CHILTERN Railways has this week started work on a £2.5 million car park deck at Warwick Parkway which will create an extra 222 spaces.

When finished the extra deck will bring the total number of parking spaces up to 959 to cater for a 32 per cent year on year growth in passenger numbers.

To minimise disruption during the upgrade, the line has opened an additional, temporary car park offering 171 spaces.

Michael Holmes, the general manager for Mainline at Chiltern said: “The launch of Mainline has resulted in a dramatic increase in passengers travelling from Warick Parkway with thousands of commuters using our service every week.”

The expansion has been partly financed by Chiltern with £1 worth of funding from the Department of Transport.

Government rail minister Theresa Villiers said: “We are delighted that we are able to announce the investment for this considerable car park extension - there is no doubt that this will encourage more people to travel by train”

She said: “Adding additional car park capacity will mean more spaces for passengers, easing congestion and helping improve overall journey satisfaction.”
